Goofy Clutch

I have a 1991 Saab 900 T,  5sp.
I have had the clutch master cylinder
replaced three times over the past three years, and the
whole clutch assembly was replaced the last time, too.

The clutch is still odd, though it is not failing.
When cold (i.e., put to fresh use--it happens in 25 degree or 100 degree
weather).
about 15% of the time, the clutch will
grab in a sudden, hard bite, close to the floor.  If the pedal is pumped,
and used, it improves (in the past, if the master cylinder failed,
the whole clutch failed--this system still works, and has been at this
steady level of minor dysfunction for months).
Another symptom is that the pedal
has a slight 'hiccup' feeling when it is brought up, that is,
as it comes into its standard up position--this is when the system is 'cold'
.
My shop has good guys; they work mostly on Saabs.
But whatever this problem is eludes them;
they have no good explanation for precisely what the
#%+&!  is goin' down with this system.  Obviously, if it
fails again, they won't be the ones to fix it.
My guess is that air is getting into the system somehow.
Any similar experiences?
