If this is still the original window motor in you 1983, then I would say you
have done very well for yourself to have it last that long. A few things you
can check or try. First off, did it do absolutely nothing? Or did it seems
like it tried to move a little but wouldn't?

If it appeared to do absolutely nothing, then clearly your first step would
be to check the fuses for a blown fuse. Does the driver's side work still? I
can not recall off hand if their is a fuse for each window or one for the
pair. If the fuse seems ok, you need to get in there with a meter and check
that battery voltage is getting to the motor when you push the button.

If it tried to move, but couldn't make it happen, first take off the panel on
the door. Now one trick is to puch the down button and while holding it, wack
the metal rack and see if that jars it loose. If so, you might only need to
clean and lube the rack. Or it could be worn brushes in the motor. And still
another option is I have heard some people having success, removing the
motor, detaching it from the transmission (gearing), then taking the rotor
out of the motor (the center part that turns) and giving the copper bars a
good cleaning in case they are gunked up and the brushes are not making good
contact.

You can always convert it to a manual crank window assembly if you wanted.
