Clarion CD Compatibility

I have a 94 9000 CSE with a factory installed Clarion receiver and
equilizer/CD player. After some research I decided that the Clarion CDC-635
CD changer would be compatible with my system.  I bought the CDC-635 and
hooked it up to the factory installed cable that was near the left rear
speaker.  The unit worked fine the first day and then did not work the next
day.  I called Clarion and was surprised to discover that the current
CDC-635 is not compatible with the factory installed system.  They said
that it is typical for the unit to work for a little while and then fail.
Apparently there is an impedance mismatch.  They recommended that I install
the Clarion FMC 250, an FM modulator.  Since the only reason I got the
CDC-635 was because of the Saab's prewiring I really to not want buy and
install another component and then deal with a remote controller.

Does anyone know if there is a way of fixing this incompatibility fluke?
Am I stuck with a unit I cannot use?
