That's BS. The key codes are in their friggin computer! Even the new one.

Anyone can call the Customer Assistance Center at: (800) 955-9007,
and ask them to look it up. It's in the Warrantee Database. You'll
need the VIN code.

Double-sided key? They couldn't just flip it over? Like every place
I've ever had them made at?
