'92 SAAB 9000 stick shift:
i've got a problem that just developed with the AC on my SAAB. My car
has the old manual AC rather than the climate control system.
My AC system works fine at times, but at others, it simply won't turn
on. At first i thought the problem was mechanical, so i had the system
checked, with no problems found. Didn't solve the problem.
So i start thinking (after flipping through the manual) that the car
needs the engine power for other things, and shuts off the AC
(apparently, according to the manual, the car will do this). But this
didn't explain why i'd be driving for an hour, at a consistent 3K rpms,
and the AC still wouldn't turn on.
So then i realize, by accident, that the AC will turn on if i hold in
the AC button all the way. If i keep my hand on the button, the AC turns
on. When i let the AC button return to the normal 'on' position, the AC
shuts off. so as long as i hold the AC button in all the way, i get cold
air. well...i drive a stick so i think you can see the inherrent problem
with this situation.
Any advice? should i go to a SAAB dealer and buy a new switch? Or is
this some sort of odd quirk with the car that will not go away? and
therefore should i just try some sort of homemade solution involving
duct tape and whatever else i can find lying around?

thx for the help
yoni
