A very general and simple answer to your question is... yes.

In more detail:
Yes, as long as you stay below the redline the engine is fine.

Yes, you may drop it down to fourth gear to accelerate from 55 to 70. This
is WELL within the performance parameteres of the engine.

Yes, you can push it even further. Drop down to third if you like. Third
gear in your car is good for somewhere around 90mph IIRC.

Heck, DRIVING the car will shorten the engine's life but seriously, don't
worry about excercising this car with high rpm's. I can say that with
complete conviction and with fact to back me up because Saab holds numerous
national and international long distance speed records as a result of their
two 'Talladega Runs.'
