DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 brake fluids are all compatible with each other, but DOT 5
(as opposed to 5.1) isn't compatible with the others. If upgrading the fluid
doesn't help you could try new (thicker) brake rotors, brake pads that are
intended for higher temperatures, or wheels with a more open design to allow
more air to reach the brakes. Of course, you can also try aftermarket
calipers and rotors that are drilled, slotted, or larger than stock, and you
could rig up ducts (perhaps using dryer hose) to route air to the brakes. If
you have fresh DOT 4 fluid in the system already, I'd probably try upgraded
brake pads first.
