Starter Lubrication

The starter has started to develop a slight
grinding sound right after startup. Nothing
concerning but I would appreciate to get rid of
it. I suppose the reason is poor lubrication of
the mechanism that returns the pinion from the
flywheel. Is it possible/worth to lubricate this
mechanism and how is it done ? I suppose it would
be a good idea to replace the brushes at the same
time.

p.s. This morning I saw something increlible, a
volvo 850 with a missing front wheel was parked
next to my car, looked a bit closer and noticed a
line on the asphalt made by the brake disc so it
had been driven there. If you mount a fancy set of
alloy rims it's a good idea to make sure the bolts
are long enough!
