Odd Clutch Malady.

Many of us have had the 'disappearing clutch pedal syndrome' : The clutch
engagement point gets lower and lower until you can't shift.

I've advised people this and that, and now I have new baffler:

When this happens to me, I first check the no-pressure feed hose going to
the master - if air can get in there, the clutch gets 'squidgey'. Next, I
bleed it, and try holding it depressed, in gear, engine running, to see if
a pressure loss causes the car to begin moving. This indicates the SLAVE
is bad (never happens). Usually it turns out to be the master cylinder -
when bleeding doesn't help.

My car is different, and it seems to be a small leak in the hydraulic line!
Under the clutch cover was clean enough, and I wasn't loosing appreciable
fluid. I had my wife pump the limp feeling clutch, and I could see a faint
wetting of the sand around the metal line which runs along the bottom of
the cowling. Not much fluid loss, and the slave is moving some, is this
wierd?

Anyone seen this before?
