Car & Driver (C&D) magazine (July 2002, p. 35) and European Car (EC)
magazine (August 2002, pp. 82-86) report on their experiences with the
9x prototype, and report that it seems like the 9x going to be
produced. Dan Neil, of C&D, pronounced, 'It's a done deal,' adding the
9x project 'has developed an air of inevitability.'

EC magazine's Tim McKinney was more tentative, but both writers
described the car's design in positive terms. The interior they
characterized as 'gorgeous,' 'a tour de force of future-think
ergonomics' (C&D), and 'like being in the cockpit of a fighter jet with
your long-bill fishing cap pulled down' (EC). As for the exterior, Ola
Granlund, the 9x project leader, quoted Michael Mauer, Saab's executive
director of design: '[He] said the three most important things when
designing a car are proportions, proportions and proportions. If you
get the proportions right, the car can be very minimalistic and still be
striking. If you keep it simple and clean, you can emphasize certain
elements and give the car brand image.... [T]here is no ornament or
fancy lines, and we think for the long term that makes the car
attractive.'

Sounds good to me.
