Body Shop Repair

Two nights ago, while I was driving home, a deer darted across four lanes
of traffic. In the match-up between Saab and beast, the Saab won. Braking
hard but too late, I hit the animal in the rear flank; I was probably
still going about 40 to 45 mph. There was no sign of the poor deer after I
pulled over but I must have wounded it badly, and I wish it had perished
on the spot; it's probably dying a slow death somewhere right now.

Anyway, the Saab -- a '97 900 SE turbo convertible -- behaved like a champ.
The car wasn't sent swerving and I don't even recall being pitched
forward in my seat; I have no seat belt bruises, no whiplash, nothing.
There's a dent the size of a large dinnerplate in the front part of the
hood, and one of the headlight assemblies is shattered (though the bulb,
strangely, remains intact). A small piece of the bumper broke off, and
behind it you can see the 4- or 5-inch-deep steel bar that's welded to the
nose of the car. The claims guy from the insurance company told me I'm
probably all right because I drive a Saab. He holds them in high regard.
And I'm reminded that I do, too...

The car's at the body shop. Is there any procedure I should insist on? I
didn't feel any shimmying, pulling or other suspicious behavior when I
drove the car after the accident, but I'd like to make sure that any
hidden damage is addressed. Do body shops do a full wheel alignment as a
standard part of the job?

Thanks,
