A competent muffler shop should be able to custom-bend and weld in an
appropriate pieces of pipe to replace this section that goes over the rear
axle.

I experienced this same problem a year/30k miles ago on my '93 Aero. Local
muffler/speed shop found that the rest of the exhaust from the flex section
back was deteriorating, too. I had them replace all between the rear
muffler (which is stainless) and the front flex section with 2.5' pipe,
which is a tad larger than the stock pipes. The resonator beneath the back
seat was replaced with a small glass pack to keep things sounding fairly
stock.

I felt a slight 'seat-o-pants' increase in power, and the price was
*considerably* less than OEM parts (~$250 installed vs. $450+ for parts
alone).

Feel daring/want more power, potentially? Try 3' pipe and/or skip the small
muffler/resonator and perhaps even a different muffler.

Want 'name brand' parts? Try Abbott Racing's stuff. Pricey but good.
