Summer-Winter Tire Combinations

Having had altogether too much fun driving home in yesterday's
snowstorm, I am contemplating going to snow tires in the winter. And
since the OEM tires are about done, I'm going to have to get new summer
tires as well. So this is the question: what are the recommendations
for tires for separate summer/winter sets? If I had to buy them today I
think I would go with Dunlop A60/Nokia Hakka, but that is not a firm
opinion.

For background, I live in Connecticut. Judging from many of the
postings I probably drive somewhat more conservatively than many
contributors. Road noise and tread life are not terribly important to
me, while emergency handling and braking (especially in the wet) are.

Feel free to email if you don't want to use up bandwidth on yet another
tire thread (YATT).
