You are describing exactly the symptoms I had been experiencing with my
1989 9000S until recently. A few days ago the temperature was lower
than it had been in the mornings, and I switched maximum fan and maximum
heat onto the windscreen to demist it - it cracked halfway across the
screen. According to the repairman, tiny stone chips can cause tiny
cracks which then open up when exposed to a large temperature gradient.
Since I have had the windscreen replaced, I have had no more problems
with condensation. I would guess that you either have a small crack in
your windscreen that you haven't noticed, or that the seal is not
sealing and colder, damper air is coming in around the edge of the
screen.
