Sorry so late, but nobody mentioned that it might not be the cruise switch
itself that is intermittent. On the old-gen Saabs the brake pedal (and
clutch pedal if you have one) each have both an electrical switch and a
vacuum switch which must be closed before the cruise will hold speed. All
of these are separate units which can wear or bend out of adjustment, and
it is very easy to have a combination of funky pedal switches that makes it
seem like the fault is somewhere else. They are not easy to see or reach
unless you remove air ducts and stand on your head under the dash, but it
can be done. At least try manually pulling up on the pedals and moving them
around to see if you can find a position that makes all the switches
simultaneously.

Good advice about wattage. Most replacement speakers from places like
Crutchfield will handle the maximum output of any OEM stereo without
physical damage, but it is good to check their specs to be sure. Watt
handling without smoke is a function of the coil winding, which you can't
see, but it is generally proportional to magnet weight which is obvious.
Watt handling that you would want to listen to is directly proportional to
magnet weight - more is better!

I disagree about the amplifier part - watts are watts, whether they come
from the tuner box or from a behemoth in the trunk. With a serious
amplifier you have the ability to fry heavier speakers, and more temptation
to do so - the sound will stay good at much higher volume levels.
