Assuming you had the correct amount of oil in the system before the leak
started, the amount you need to add will be equal to the amount that leaked
out.

If you have no way of knowing how much leaked out, you should have a
competent shop flush the system for you and check the oil level in the
compressor. The goal is to end up with the correct total oil quantity in
the system.

Total oil capacity of your A/C system is about 6 oz. This includes the oil
in the compressor, condenser, evaporator, receiver/drier, hoses, etc..

Venting refrigerant to the atmosphere is illegal pretty much everywhere.
Charging your own system is legal in most places, as long as you don't get
paid money for doing it for someone else, and as long as it isn't R12. This
is supported by the fact that you can buy R12 refrigerant and Ester oil
off-the-shelf at your local Wal-Mart or AutoZone.

Either way, a deep vacuum (29' HG) needs to be drawn on the system for about
30 minutes to remove air and mositure, *before* the system is charged with
refrigerant.

Official SAAB R134a retrofit procedures call for about 30 oz of refrigerant
to be charged into an empty (completely evacuated) system in a C900.

NO ! The threads do not seal anything. The seal is made by means of an
o-ring. The o-ring should be lubricated with the appropriate compressor oil
before installation. The threads should be clean/dry, or coated with
anti-seize for easier removal in the future.
