Be aware that prior to 1988, the lower mounting hole in the A/C
compressor bracket is *not* slotted for easy removal. The top alternator
bolt must, therefore, come out completely. I'm not clear on exactly when
the change was made (it seems to have been model year 1988), but I know
my 86 16v motors have a non-slotted hole (well, did until I either got a
later one, or slotted the hole myself)

Once it's out, though, a couple minutes with a bench grinder and you've
got a slotted hole.

To get the compressor off the bracket, you'll need a 17mm wrench and a
T-45 Torx (might be a T-50). Mind the way the heads are oriented, as it
might be hrd to get the assembly back on the car if there is a nut where
there should be the Torx head. Clearances are tight.
