Hot Cut Out

Over the last several months my '88 9000T has become more and more
likely to cut out while running (both at idle and on the road) and
to not restart immediately after cutting out or switching off the
ignition. I am interpreting this as a heat related problem. When
the engine cuts out, it doesn't stumble, it just stops. After
anywhere from 5 minutes to 4 hours, it restarts fine. The running
time before cutting out has dramatically shortened, however, to
about 10 minutes this evening.

I have opened and reclosed the gas cap, just to see if there was
any pressure build up (no), replaced the rotor and distributor cap
(long over due), made sure the ignition wires were seated properly,
and reseated all the relays, even rapping the fuel pump and injector
relays to make sure they weren't sticking. I replaced a long
suspect ignition coil, the electrical portion of the ignition
switch, and the ignition amplifier module. The battery appears in
good condition and typically provides over 11 V while cranking and
(when it runs) the car drives very nicely, even up hills. The
alternator provides about 13.3 V at idle, sometimes runs up to
about 14 V when the car first gets on the road.

Could this be the air mass meter? My only remaining suspect is the
Hall Effect sensor in the distributor. I am considering buying a
distributor rebuild kit assuming that the problem is with the Hall
sensor. Are there any 'gotchas' when R&Ring this distributor?
Thanks.
