Reverse Brake Clunk

I have read the FAQ concerning the reverse brake clunk and didn't find
the solution listed that I now use. I have five 86', 87' Saab 900's on
the road and this method 'fix' works great for much lees effort than
welding and grinding, and much much less expensive than buying a
rebuilt. What you do essentially is replace the 'wear' with a thin
piece of sheet metal! A bit hard to explain and I haven't done one for
awhile so don't have a picture presently. The thin piece (.020' to ,040'
thickness or whatever you can fit) has the width if the slide plate
thickness and the overall length of maybe 1'. It will have the shape of
the letter 'L'. The long side is fitted between the slide and piston
body. The short side is bent back flat onto the slide. Drill an 1/8'
hole through the short side into the slide and secure with a short 'pop'
rivet. I've had this fix last for a couple years. Make sure you use the
'brake grease' on the piece. The great news about this is you don't
even need to remove the caliper from the car! Hope the helps.
