Re: Replacement Windshield Quality

Based on a discussion from another car group, I beleive that there may be
a difference in windshield glass quality, or at least, hardness. The
owners of this other make of car are convicned that their windshields are
made of 'soft' glass that dings easily. I looked at one of these vehicles
and its windshield at 30,000 miles looked like the one on my former '89 900
at 125,000. However, I have had to replace two 900 factory windshields
because of star cracks that expanded. The owners of the car with the
'soft' glass, don't report much in the way of cracks, just small dings. I
wonder if a harder glass leads to cracking, while a softer glass leads to
dings and dimples. And I wonder if there is any way to tell, when buying
glass, just what you are getting.
