Power loss

Hi Folks, I would appreciate any suggestions you can give me about this
problem. My 87 9000 Turbo automatic seems to be a bit down on power,
especially from a standing start. I have checked all vacuum lines,
connections etc, the turbo seems to be spooling up properly and the
engine starts easily and runs smooth. However, I did discover that the
air bypass valve between the air filter and the turbo was broken (broken
diaphragm). I have plugged the vacuum line to it until I can replace it.
My question is: could this device be responsible for the drop in
acceleration? Is it that important? Thank you for your answers.
