Keyless Entry Transmitter Replacement

The keyless entry transmitter for my wife's 93 900T has recently stopped
working. After pulling apart the transmitter I noticed that there is some
kind of removable security chip inside. I was wondering if anyone knows
whether I can simply buy a new transmitter (without the chip), and take the
security chip from the one thats not working and put it in the new
transmitter without having to re-program anything (assuming that the
security chip itself is not broken.

The parts guy at the local Saab dealer didn't seem to have a clue, and
told me that the transmitter is non-refundable and costs about $70.

Anyone have any experience with this??

thanks in advance

Jim
