Bad Throw-Out Bearing

Most Classic 900s will eventually start making a little noise at that
end of the motor. Sometimes it's the throwout bearing, sometimes just
not enough oil getting to the top of the chain drive in the gearbox.
In either case, it's not anything you need worry about right away.

But, if you plan on keeping the car a long time, and keep driving it
at the same rate, keep in mind that labor and clutch kits only will
get more expensive...

Check the oil level in the gearbox. You may want to change it, after
9 years. I use RedLine MTL, others use other fluids. You'll need a
differential cover gasket (no drain plug). Don't forget to clean out
the filter screen on the diff cover when it's apart.
