I had a similar fault (ABS light on) in my '91 9000 just after it was out of
warranty. I don't think you can get the codes without ISAT/Tech II, but I
did find this:
Pull the plastic cover off the 'fish tank' (ask why it's called this) - that
is the area behind the engine where the windshield wiper linkage, the engine
controller, and the ABS controller swim. In my car, when I pulled out the
ABS controller out and removed the electrical connector (it's a multi-pin
connector with some sort of mechanical locking mechanism, if I recall) I
found the whole terminal area full of green fuzzy corrosion. I cleaned up
both parts with great care (used a very 'soft' brass brush on the controller
pins) and filled the connector with electrical terminal grease (Radio Shack)
to keep the water out. This cured the problem at least for a year or so
after which I sold the car.

That said, a much more likely electical failure is in one of the wheel speed
sensor circuits. Certainly there must be FAQs or links around as to how to
check them.

Other mechanical ($$$$$$$) gremlins are, of course, lurking in that
now-12-year-old chunk of electro-hydro-mechanical master cylinder with it's
pump, solenoids, valves, etc. You have been flushing/replaceing the brake
fluid every year, haven't you?

Good Luck!
