If you have a *rear* filler hole where gearbox level is measure with the
dual-function motor-oil dipstick (i.e. 1986 9000T), then you can use this
hole to suck out all the old oil.

If you have a front-dipstick gearbox (1988-1993 ABS-equipped 9000 cars),
you cannot use the dipstick hole to remove the old oil. Only about two
thirds of the oil will come out this way. You must use a rear hole to get
it all out, and the only rear hole on these boxes is the speedo-gear hole.

To do the sucking, I use the little pump from an old liquid-soap bottle.
Hook up the tube to a length of old vacuum-hose (3ft), and squeeze to pump
the oil into the old soap bottle that the pump itself came from. This
takes about half-an-hour to extract all the oil from a 9k gearbox (2.5 to 3
quarts). An electric pump setup would be much more desirable, and much
quicker of course.

Clutch problems like these (without external fluid loss) can often be
linked to air in the clutch line, or poor clutch-master seals. Do a
thorough pressure-bleed of the clutch hydraulics first, with high-quality
DOT4 fluid.
If this doesn't help, rebuild the clutch master cylinder with new seals.

David.
