That vintage Saab can be run on synthetic lubricants with no problem. The
only issue I know of comes with the NG 900s -- you have to use a specail
Saab-spec synthetic in the manual tranny. I have been using synthetics in
my Saabs since 1974.

Try replacing the battery, if you haven't yet. It may have a bad cell.
