Power Sunroof Repair Tip

Just repaired Leif's (1992 900S) sunroof again, so I'll share some tips.

Several different sunroof closing problems can have the same cause: a
broken ramp. The most common symptom is one side of the sunroof not
moving up properly, so the sunroof isn't flush with the rest of the
roof. If the broken piece shifts around, it can keep the sunroof
from closing completely.

The fix is pretty easy, and requires no special tools.

Run the sunroof back about 8 inches. With a T15 driver, remove the
four screws that hold the top half of the sunroof. Run the sunroof
forward again, but not all the way home. Lift the sunroof top (the
painted part), slide it forward, and remove it. You'll probably find
a broken plastic part, variously called a 'guide shoe' or 'ramp'
lying around inside. Get a replacement (Saab part no. 9293010).

The ramp just slides on to a little rectangular finger; see the
opposite side if you're not sure where it is. The screw on the
bottom of the ramp is for height adjustment: if the sunroof sits too
low, back the screw out a little and reinstall the ramp.

To replace the top half, make sure the sunroof is almost all the way
forward. Slide the two tabs at the back of the top half under the
little wire guides at the back of the bottom half. Maneuver the top
half back in place. The four tabs with screw holes on the top half
go behind the corresponding lip of the bottom half. Run the sunroof
back and replace the screws.
