Re: Low Profile Radar Mount

The best place that I have found for my 'Passport' radar detector is
clipped to the underside of the driver's sun visor, near the far left of
the visor. I use some Velcro on the clip and the upper side of the visor to
keep it from vibrating off the slick vinyl. I run the power cord in the
hidden channel formed under the flap of the rubber windshield trim and
around to the underside of the dash, then over to the cigarette lighter.

This has several benefits: The detector is high up and has a clear line of
sight for maximum range. The drivers head blocks the indicator lights from
being seen through the rear window. (I have heard of police activating
radar from behind a car looking for flashing lights, then using a pretext
for stopping and ticketing the driver, even though detectors are legal in
that state.) The detector is also well hidden from being viewed through the
front or side windows by someone standing up alongside the car. With the
detector being plugged into a cigarette-lighter adapter for power, it is
easy to unobtrusively unplug it if you are stopped so it won't sound off
while the officer is talking to you. That could make the difference between
getting a ticket or a warning.
