Oh, Yeah! But with a 1994 9000...

If you look up the service bulletin on Shift-Lock for the mid-90's 9k
series, there was a problem. Seems that the same fuse for the vanity
mirror lights was ALSO connected to the shift-lock on automatic trannies.

This wouldn't have been so bad except that this was an UNDOCUMENTED
electrical connection! The first time it happened to the local dealer here
on the Central Coast of California, the Saab rep spent 3 days tearing apart
a 9000 before he found the problem.

Here's my suggestion: buy one of those fuse-checkers that you can place on
top of the fuse while the fuse is installed. Next time the shift-lock
won't disengage, check all of your fuses for continuity while someone has
their foot on the brake with the engine on. If you know how to use a
Volt-Ohm reader, that would be even better. Take readings on your fuses
while everything is working properly, then be ready to run the same tests
the next time it fails.

My suspicion is that you have an electrical connection which makes contact
somewhere when it wants to, and maybe is grounding out somewhere when it
exhibits the malfunctioning behavior.

Also, check the 9-5 BBS on Saturday nights and find out if Mike9SPG is
watching the board. He's a local mechanic in my area and frequents that
space on Saturday nights. He's awesome.

Let me know what happens, especially if you stick that guy with a
screwdriver! What a frustrating attitude for him to have! Saab just got
done gaining a serious foothold in the US market, and now their service arm
is driving people like me away...
