I am in the process of replacing a leaking Sanden 709QU (r12) compressor
on a -92 9k cs 2.3i (leak is in housing seal). I have done a bit
shopping around and found out that the Sanden 7H15 (r134a) intendend
according to part books for a 94-98 9k 2.0 will fit. I also saw a late
2.3t fitted with this unit at a garage. There is only one but, though:
the high side charging port is placed on the Q-Pad fitting instead of
the compressor. On this higher connector variant the lines come out from
the side and the charge port sits on top.
There seem to be a couple of options, to add the port in the line, or
get a Q-Pad adapter with the charge port. I'll talk with the mechanic
about it.
Most interesting is the price. A brand new 7H15 will cost 2/3 of the
price of a remanfactured 709!
