True to some extent, but it depends on the shock and the market it's sold
to.

Ah, but there you missed.

Tokico is, I believe, the largest OEM to the Japanese auto industry, and
sells a fair number to Detroit (Ford comes to mind) as well.

Bilstein is a branch of Krupp, they are also huge, and do a lot of OEM
business all over the world including most high-end GM products.

Koni is part of ITT, they do not do a lot of OEM shocks under their own
brand name (though ITT Automotive is big in this area) but do much
consulting and testing for OEMs and have decades of expertise in areas an
OEM the size of Saab (at least pre-GM Saab) had no clue about.

Kayaba (KYB) is a sizeable company, I'm not sure how big their shock
organization is or how much OEM business they do.

That isn't to say these companies always sell the same calibrations to the
aftermarket as they do to OEMs, but they do generally know what they're
doing, and certainly some of these firms have to be accorded as being the
best in their field.

This is a valid assessment, though I'm generally inclined to favor Bilstein
where a specific application is available.

John.
