Main strength and awkwardness! You need to buy or build a tool to hold the
tensioner in full compression while you R&R the belt and idler pulleys
(replace both pulleys and the belt together! It's entirely too much work
to be doing it again sooner than you need to). THen you need to compress
the tensioner to insert the tool you just bought/borrowed/built. The
service manual says to haul up on the belt. Another way is to turn the
tensioner bolt counter clockwise to compress the tensioner (BTW, you do
know that the tensioner bolt is the *one* reverse threaded bolt, don't
you? Later bolts are marked as such).

The very best way to compress the tensioner, IMO is the magic c-clamp
conversion kit that I swore I'd make (but haven't yet) last time I bumbled
my way through the tensioner job. Anyone with access to rudimentary
machine tools and with minimal welding or brazing ability and facility is
welcome to contact me off-list and we'll talk about this!
