i wonder if anyone might have some insight. the EDU computer (outside
temperature, fuel econoy, fluid level warnings, etc.) in my 86 9000 T went
dead a few days ago...nothing, no display at all.

now, the car wil not start at all. on cranking, the battery seemed to go
dead. it took a full charge overnight. now on turning the key with that
battery re-charged (and with all fuses out except required ones), there is
only a click from under the hood. put that battery back on the charger and
it still shows a full charge.

now trying to start with that battery again (and all fuses in), there is a
click/click/clicking noise from the relay pannel (pulled the fuses & the
relay pannel out)...there are two relays listed for ignition. do these
ever go bad ? but they probably wouldnt make clicking if they went bad ?

i also tried starting the car while getting a jump from the (rescue)volvo
(*gag*) and found all the same things happening.

it seems like maybe there is some short on the circuit to the instruments,
stealing all the power when you turn the key ? and thus, the clicking
noises when the key is turned ?

i guess the next move is to get the engine running by rolling the car in
gear...see what happens then. and/or then maybe put in the battery from
that volvo (which now has an inflated ego from always starting, whereas the
9000 has now twice failed to start-- EVER), but i dont want to risk killing
that battery

any insight would greatly be appeciated.

(a long time ago, i had to have the ignition key cylinder replaced because
when you turned it, nothing happened. i cant remember if there was a click
from under the hood then or not when it wouldnt start. that sounds
differnt, doesnt it ?)

thanks
jay
