Re: Salvage Title and Value

I can't help much with the PA salvage title issue, but be sure that there is
no such rule in MA. There, you can buy back your damaged vehicle from the
insurance company, and there is no title work required of any kind, since
there was no salvage yard possession involved.

Think about it like this. If the car was worth $2400, and the insurance had
it fixed for $2400, would it still end up with a salvage title ? I think
NOT. Who says you wouldn't take the settlement, buy the car back, and THEN
spend $2400 of your own money to fix it. You would then end up with the car
fixed the same way as if the insurance did it, had the car been worth $400
more to start with.

In short, there's no logical reason to force a salvage title on a vehicle
just because it has had more $$ spent on it's repair/maintenance than it's
worth to an insurance adjuster. Is there ?

Here's some recent value info:

N.A.D.A.

SAAB (Swedish)

9000

Body Style: Sedan 5d Turbo
Model Number: CD5
Weight: 2,835
Low Retail: $1,850
Average Retail: $2,875
High Retail: $4,200

You may be able to get with your insurance company, and convince them that
your car was indeed worth more than $2k before the accident. They'll will
likely put the vehicle into the Low or Average category, and then randomly
determine what repair expenditures would have been necessary BEFORE the
accident took place for the vehicle to be worth it's category value. Like
this:

'NADA retail is $2875, but your vehicle would have needed $875 worth of
repairs before the accident to qualify. Therefore, it's adjusted value is
$2k.'

If you want to keep the car, they'll determine what you could sell it for at
salvage, and deduct this from the $2k. What's left is what they'll offer to
give you in addition to the damaged car.
