If it is a clunky rattle, check the following. Jack the car up at the
front jack point till the tire is well off the ground. If necessary
(it should already be clear) push up the plastic boot that covers the
point where the shock absorber's shiny damper rod exits the strut.
Where the damper rod leaves the strut there is a metal seal that
sometimes rotates lose and then the damper rod has a lot of play over
bumps etc. Steering etc. is not affected, but it is damn annoying !

To tighten this is tough. Vice grips will allow some range, but the
spring is in the way. On the top of the seal are two holes, 180
degrees apart. A 90 nose pliers might work to insert into the holes.
I made a tool in the shop, essentially a flat crescent wrench with
two screws perpendicular to the face at 2.2 cm from a centre line.
This tightened it up nicely. I thought that my koni shocks and B&G
springs were responsible for the seal coming lose, so I didn't dare
ask the dealer to fix it under warranty. THeir philosophy is that 'if
you wanna play, you gotta pay'.
