10W30 or 15W40 would be the choices in conventional oils. 10W40 would only
be recommended (by me personally) if you used synthetic, because the
additional VI improvers are the chemicals which, if there is going to be a
problem caused by the oil and the heat, is where it comes from. Each
'viscosity grade' corresponds approximately 20 degrees F. So at 100 F, an
SAE 40 oil would flow the same as 30 weight at 80F. If I lived in southern
Alabama, I would probably use 15W40 in the summer and 10W30 when it's cool.
Probably Thanksgiving to March.
