The Peugeot 504 has the best mechanism of all - spare is under the trunk in
a hinged cage. To drop the cage, simply open the trunk, reach down just
inside between the taillights and pull the convenient 'T' handle! Clunk,
the back of the cage drops to the ground and the tire is pulled out. Slide
the flat back in, lift up the front edge of the cage and it automatically
locks back in place. It is even well balanced, so it is not a struggle to
lift back up. One hand job. No need to unload the trunk. You can even
access the jack and the lugwrench without unloading. And if anything, the
jack is MORE rugged than the SAAB item.

C'est magnifique! ;-)
