Not really.

The traditional clutch-type limited-slip GM calls Positraction, Ford calls
Traction-Lok, etc. - yes, those are unsuited to front-drive use.

However - there are a number of limited-slip differentials that work very
well in front-drive applications. I have a Quaife worm-gear torque-biasing
diff in my Taurus SHO, and it's easily the best thing I've ever done to the
car. Quaife makes diffs for some Saabs, they're not cheap ($1000-2000)
but IMO worth absolutely every cent in a car with more than 150hp. There
are other similar diffs make by Tractech (TrueTrac), Zexel/Gleason
(Torsen), etc. but Quaife (http://www.quaife.co.uk
is the corporate site;

http://www.quaifeamerica.com is
their US distributor) has the broadest FWD

aftermarket coverage. Torsens have been used as OEM in a number of
vehicles ranging from Hummers to RX-7s to Peugeot 505s, but the only OEM
FWD application I'm aware of in the US is the Integra Type R.

Some European Fords and a number of FWD Nissans and Infinitis over the
years have used a Ferguson-type viscous-clutch differential, this also
works well in my experience but I'm aware of nothing to fit a Saab. The
ASHA Gerodisc is also a self-contained limited-slip that may be suitable
for FWD use, but once again no Saab applications.

John.
