On the check engine light, make sure all the ground connections are tight.
I had an intermitent check-eng light problem with a 93 900 and problem was
a loose ground connection in engine compartment.

As far as rattle in the rear...if it's a hatchback, make sure hatch is
adjusted right. With it closed, try shaking it up and down with the handle,
You shouldn't feel any looseness. The hatch's wood package shelf needs to
be in place to help prevent hatch from clunking over bumps. You should
also lube, with silicone lubricant, the rubber stops for the
hatch....believe there's 2 on each side. Perhaps muffler/tailpipe is
hitting body or axle? Somebody might have left something loose under
seat/spare tire area or?? There are also some suspension bushings back
there that might go bad and clunk. And, maybe if a wheel bearing went bad
it might cause a clunk. Folding seat latches another possibility. Lots of
possibilities!!
