I wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions about this problem before I
have a chat with the dealer? They might make my conversation with the
mechanics a bit more knowledgable.

My '97 900S suddenly has developed some odd driveability problems. I'm not
sure whether all these events are connected but I get a sense that they
might.

First, the car's battery seemed a bit drained when I started it after
sitting outside in rain and damp weather for two days. The starter sounded
rather sluggish and the dash lights were dim. It did this for two starts.
Once it had run for awhile and after waterproofing the battery connections,
everthing returned to normal.

Then yesterday (about 2 weeks later) all sorts of weird things starting
happening. The first thing was that the brake/ABS warning light flashed on
after driving for a couple of seconds. They went out after another couple
of seconds.

Later that day, the engine stumbled and stalled while parking. It would
not restart without pressing the accelerator to the floor - flooded engine
mode. But then it started very quickly and the engine revved very high.
The check engine/transmission light came on.

Everything worked fine for awhile and the check engine/transmission light
went out after a couple of restarts. Then a couple of hours later, the
engine cranked but would not start (this only a few minutes after it had
started just fine). The floodiing procedure worked but again it seemed to
start too quickly and the engine revved really high again.

Finally on the highway returning home, the low windshield fluid light came
on (not surprising as it had done this a couple of times and my reservoir
was low). But every warning light on the dash came on at the same time.
There was no change in the car's performance - no engine stumbling, dimming
lights or anything. The dash just lit up like a Xmas tree. They all went
out when I cleared the message about the windshield fluid on the trip
computer.

Any insights would be most definitely welcome. Thanks.
