OK, I looked further into the rotor conundrum I had on my '86 900S.
When I asked a mechanic, he responded: 'you don't have those 'orangutan'
calipers, do you? A quick look showed that I do, and that the desciption is
accurate (although I would have said 'Baboon' ;-).
Thing is, I've had new rotors twice (including once under warranty, when
the dealer couldn't get rid of the pulsing brake problem), and am unsure
after 16 yrs if I have the original style rotors.
I stuck a feeler gauge (well, a bent paper clip ;-) on the rotor, and it
seems I have solid rotors. This goes against what the consensus seems to be
on the BBS (I usually only get the digest).
So, I'm a little leery, since i'm getting the parts myself, of getting the
wrong rotors and calipers (I need both).
I'm still confused, and I need new brakes :-(
