Engine Rattle

I'm looking for some help on a noise my engine is making. Higher up in
the RPM's, there is a louder knock/rattle which appears to be coming
from the engine. I have removed the valve cover and evertyhing looks
fine- nothing loose to the touch, no flat lobes, engine turns over
beautifully. The engine also made this loud sound at idle today but it
has since gone back to just high rpm's.

CHAIN QUESTION
My question regarding the chain is this. There is considerable lateral
play in the links of the chain. If you hold two lins that are joined
together by a rivet, you can slide them laterally along the rivet, the
inner /smaller link sliding back and forth within the outer link. Should
this be? All of the links seem to have this same space so I would guess
it's normal.

Also if it is of any help. I upgraded to the new style chain tensioner 4
years ago.

Much thanks in advance,

Chris O'Malley
