900 vs 9-3

My last Saab was an 83 900T that died after too many Boston
winters. I am in the market for a new generation Saab
(post 1994) and would like to tap the collective wisdom of
this site for some insights. Here are a few questions:

I heard that the first few years of the NG 900 were
troublesome, should I avoid all but post 1997 cars?

And, the press says the 9-3 is markedly better than the
900. Is this the opinion of this group as well.

Finally, what type of Saab could I get in the used market
for around 20k?

Any wisdom is appreciated. Please either respond on the
list or to amajochno39sdcx6spamx782yahoo.com

Regards,
Andrew

1983 900T (RIP at 140k)
