Re: Water Pump

Thanks to all who sent help on the water pump. In the end, I was shocked
at how easy it was. I removed the idler pulley mounting bolts to get
that single outer belt out of the way. Then I removed the pulley for the
water pump, took out the pump, scraped the engine surface clean, and
mounted the new pump with the new gasket and a little gasket sealer (I
put all 5 bolts through the pump & gasket before mounting). I was able
to remount the pulley without adjusting the belts, then checked the
belts play and added coolant slowly, until the thermostat bleed screw
flowed steady coolant. About 2 hours start to finish. Thanks again for
all the help.

To the person who posted re buying a BMW: My family has a 90 735i with
55k on it. They don't make service manuals for this car, so if the
slightest problem occurs (broken power seat, for example), it's off to
BMW who are at the same time the most expensive and least helpful bunch
you'll ever come across. I hope it's not the same story for the 3 series
car. And if you should lose the security code for the radio, it'll cost
you about $150 to have them read it to you. Even though it's your car.
Hopefully you have a BMW dealer you can count on. The car is for sale
simply because dealing with BMW in NY is >> such a joyless experience.

Peace, Chris O'Malley
