Re: Removing Steering Wheel

If it's not the multifunction switch, it could be the clockspring*, the
part that transmits electric signals btwn the steering column and the
steering wheel. One half turns with the wheel, the other half stays fixed
WRT the column. If there's a clearance problem, it will click.

If you take the steering wheel off without restraining the clockspring, you
run the danger of, upon reinstallation, incorrectly orienting the
electrical tower. You might not have enough clockspring-internal wire
length to go lock-to-lock, running the risk of breaking the wires.

Also, to add to Goldberger's excellent instructions for safe handling of
airbags, I would also recommend placing the airbag face up.

* - 'Clockspring' is a misnomer; there's no spring, only what amounts to a
ribbon wire. It's got a little springing action, but it's primary function
is electrical transmission.
