Radio Days

The radio in my '86 900S is schwerpunkt.
I started the car: no tunes. I had noticed that I didn't hear the antenna go
up on start.
This has happened intermittently in the past, but I had always been able to
get tunes by one of:
Cycle the power
Insert cassette
This time, nothing.
I turned off the car at the next stop, still no tunes at power-up. When I got
home I tried pulling the fuse to reset the radio. No go.
So, I tried pulling the radio out of the dash. (I still have the hooks used
to pull the radio out of the dash on those models). No go.
I also used a generous amount of body slams (well, palm slams), also to no
avail ;-).
Any ideas on how to make it go?
It's strange that the radio control panel shows not only power, but a radio
frequency, and the control buttons (aside from volume ;-) still work, as
using the scan button and preset buttons apparently work OK, as the ctl panel
will show the proper frequency. In addition, the cassette works OK, as it
will play, FF, REW, eject. The audio controls (bal/fad/bass/treble) still
work (presumably, the lights still work as before, but there's no sound to
verify that anything's actually happening to the sound waves).

The radio had worked fine for weeks, and there's been no appreciable rain or
bad weather, apart from the seasonally colder weather in New England.

Any ideas??

I've already sent it back to Clarion once (about 10+ yrs ago), and don't
cotton to the idea of sending it back again (assuming that the Clarion OOW
policy is still valid). I understand that Clarion has increased the price of
repair from the $75 I paid for it way back when.
BTW:
Getting the radio out of the dash was a real B***h, after 10+ yrs it was
snugly nestled in its home, and didn't want to come out; it took a lot of
tries, and wiggling/tugging to get it out. I can't see how this was ever a
valid security technique, as removal was recommended for security in the
manual.
