I would welcome advice I encountered Jan. 3 , 2003 when I went to pick up a
new 2002 9-5 wagon with automatic and premium package at a certified Saab
dealership in Massachusetts. I first drove and saw the vehicle on Dec. 26 at
night. Never got a good look because it was parked outside.
The car ran well. I returned to the dealership and made an offer, which was
countered, but much higher than I wanted. I knew what the car had gone for
this summer with the high rebates. The next morning- Fri, Dec. 27, I called
back and up the offer. They countered and I wound up with the car for $28,500
including delivery, but excluding title and documentation fees of no39sdcx6spamx782$195 and
5% sales. Iput $500 down on a charge as a deposit and wanted to finance the
rest on 0-0-0- financing. The salesman said he would fax me the application.
It did not come. I called several times on Sat. and kept getting his voice
mail. I finally asked to be connected to the finance mgr, faxed the
application back and emailed a long list of requests for programming changes,
carfax report, vehicle history report, recalls that needed to be checked, to
the salesman, which he acknowled receipt of by email.

I made several calls to the salesman to find out if the loan was approved on
Monday, left emails, and voicemails. He finally got back to me, very
apologetic, but it had been busy. Sorry, he hadn't heard about the loan yet.
Tuesday was New Year's Eve;he finally returned my three messages in the
afternoon, very apologetic, to say the loan was approved and that I could get
the car on Jan. 2 Thurs.

I went out to the dealership in daylight to get the car. It had not been
washed or waxed. There were almost 100 marks and scratches around the edges
of the hood. There were three marring marks /scratches on the wagon door
under the license plate, one near the rear wheel well, one each on the left
passenger and driver's door, one near the front wheelwell. One of Saab
campaign changes had not been attended to ( months old) and most of the
changes I had emailed were ignored.
The carfax was clean and nothing was on the vehicle history sheet. The car
has 172 miles on it.

At first the salesman said he would have the side marks buffed and repaint
the hood. I did not want that and suggested they replace the hood with one
from a 2002 car. He agreed . I emailed the list of things that were to be
done on Fri again, asked that he get in writing a statement that would cover
the new hood under the warranty from the Saab zone manager.

We spoke late in the day on Fri,Jan 3. The hood was switched. Nothing is in
writing, and he danced around it. The car also had not been buffed and was not
going to be washed or waxed. Now it won't be ready till the beginning of the
week, if then.

I am spooked. I had a Chrysler - a real lemon-years ago that peeled and was
repainted twice by Chrysler. How could a new car get so marked up?

Should I walk away from this deal and start all over with another dealer? It
is now Jan 4-7 days since I put a deposit down. I have never heard of anyone
every getting this kind of run-a-round. I liked the car, but the bloom, so to
speak is off the rose.
