This is a long E-mail, but it will solve all your ABS problems.

Hi there, my name is Anthony and I am currently the happy owner of a =
9000 2.0T, I have just read your E-mail, and I can tell you exactly what =
your problem is, because my car was doing the same thing.

Your problem lies in your Front wheel ABS sensors.

My garage said he would just replace them, but at =A390+VAT each, I =
decided to look at it myself.

OK, the mechanics.

Pull your drivers side wheel off.

There you will see your nice new shiny disks. Put your face at the top =
of the disks and look right behind them, there you will see a bolt with =
a black wire coming out of it. The wire loops in and out of a bracket on =
the suspension strut, and then disappears through the inner wing. These =
are your ABS sensors

The black wire mentioned above is the problem, when you look at it, it =
will look OK, no damage to it anywhere, but I'm telling you, its =
knackered, the damage is underneath the nice shinny black outer sheath, =
you see every time you turn or accelerate hard this cable bends, with =
time the inner cores of the cable begin to fracture, until the cable has =
a break in it that only shows itself when the cable is bent, by steering =
the car. Your ABS computer doesn't like this at all, if the connection =
is re-established within 1.5 seconds, the ABS light will go out again. =
However, if not the light will stay on and you will have to turn the key =
to reset it.

Trust me I know I'm right.

Looking at the cable, it comes out from behind the brake disk up into =
the bracket on the suspension strut, there is turns and then comes back =
through the same bracket, then it goes up into the inner wing. Every =
time it goes through the bracket, it is fed through a rubber thingi, =
which protects the cable from being chaffed on the metal bracket. Now =
move your eyes to where the cable turns round and goes back out of the =
same bracket plate on the suspension strut. Here you will see the cable =
going through one of those rubber thingies, at the point where the cable =
comes out of the rubber thingi, to go up and out of the inner wing is =
where the break is, right at the end of the rubber thingi. This is the =
part of the cable that bends every time you steer.

With my Saab, I pulled the cable to bits, and found the break there, =
then I fixed it, but the ABS light was still coming on, all be it less =
than it was, so I looked at the other side, and that was just as bad. I =
don't know which side of your car has the broken wire, and there is no =
way to tell, so if I were you I would do this for both sides, it takes a =
little while, but it will fix it for good.

OK back to the repair, right, you can see the part of the cable in =
question, pull the rubber thingi out of the bracket, and with a Stanley =
knife, cut it off the cable, note where the end of the thingi was though =
OK!. Now using your knife again cut a 2 inch slit in the cable, the mark =
you made on the cable should be in the middle of the slit so you have =
and inch either side. Peel the sheath away, you should now be looking at =
a nice silver screen, this should be perfectly in tact, if it is =
damaged, then this wont help. Now you need to get the sheath out of the =
way, cut it if necessary, so you can get to the inner cable, cut the =
sheath away from this cable, as you cut the sheath you will probably =
notice some damage to the inner cores, or in-fact as mine was there may =
not be any inner cores, if so you need to strip the cable back until you =
find them, when you do, solder them together, and wrap in black tape, =
then twist the outer sheath together, and solder them together as well, =
then wrap it in tape so that it is secure. The cable will no longer fit =
in the bracket, but don't worry about that, get the rubber thingi, and =
put it over the new joint, and secure in place with wire ties, you can =
leave it floating about as it is now more protected then ever.=20

If you never found any damage on this cable, solder and tape it all up =
and put the rubber thingi on as above, You problem is on the other side =
of the car. Repeat the above procedure for the other side, and your =
light will trouble you no-more.

It will take you about 2 hours the do both sides, the procedure sounds =
long winded, but its not all that bad. Since I did this to mine, I can =
do what ever I like and it will not light up the ABS light, and the ABS =
works great, trust me with 207BHP I need it to.
