Fuel Pump Replacement

I've had the fuel pump (the primary FI high pressure Bosch pump) out of my
87 9000T to replace the primer pump. Couldn't figure how to get the bosch
pump out. It appears to be stuck into its plastic canister with a large
flexible rubber donut. Do I just yank on it till it comes free? Do I need
this donut (and an O ring that goes under it?). None of the local SAAB
dealers stock these bits so it makes me think it is reusable. The Haynes
manual 'o the car doesn't really say how to remove the pump from it's
plastic reservoir - just how to get the whole pump assy out of the tank.

Now the bosch pump is making nasty noises and needs to be changed. So any
thoughts?

Advice appreciated.
