The problem with monkeying around with the tire pressures to minimize
understeer on cornering is it also minimizes understeer at speed. It's
easy to experiment with different pressures while taking some low speed
corners, but high speed stability problems, when they occur, might not give
you a second chance to try something different, at least, not without some
reconstructive surgery to your car, yourself, or both. That said, higher
pressures increase the 'cornering stiffness' of a tire, so for a given slip
angle, the higher pressure tire will generate more side force. More front
pressure, less understeer. The maximum safe tire pressure is the one
printed on the side of the tire. It won't necessarily be pleasant or
desireable, but it is safe in the sense that the tire won't explode from
overinflation.
